Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to the Pathogen game for iPhone, iPad and Mac ("the game") and the website pathogengame.com ("the website"). By downloading, installing or playing the game, or using the website, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the game or the website.
1. The license to play
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and play the game on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. The game is licensed, not sold.
If you got the game from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where these Terms and Apple's agreement differ, Apple's agreement applies to your use of the app.
2. What you may not do
- Copy, modify, sell, rent or redistribute the game or its content
- Reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code, except where the law allows it
- Use cheats, hacks, modified saves or exploits to gain an unfair advantage or to break the game
- Use the game or website for anything illegal
3. Beta versions
Beta builds distributed through TestFlight are early, unfinished versions. They may contain bugs, crash, lose progress or change significantly before release. Progress from a beta may not carry over to the released game. Please don't share beta builds outside the official TestFlight link.
4. Purchases
Any in-app purchases (such as cosmetic skins) are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms. Purchases give you a license to use the purchased content within the game; they have no cash value and can't be transferred. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies; you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
5. Game content and changes
We may update, change, rebalance or remove features or content at any time to improve the game. We may also stop supporting the game in the future.
6. Not medical advice
Pathogen is a work of fiction and entertainment. The viruses in the game are fictional and only inspired by real biology. The Codex includes real scientific facts for education, but nothing in the game or on the website is medical advice. For health questions, talk to a doctor or other qualified professional.
7. Intellectual property
The game, its name, logo, artwork, music, code and all other content belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may share screenshots and videos of your own gameplay, including on social media and streaming sites, as long as you don't claim the game as your own.
8. Community
Our community spaces, such as r/PathogenGame, are also subject to the rules of the platform they're on. Be kind; we may remove content or users who harass others, spam or break the rules.
9. Disclaimer
The game and website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don't promise the game will be error-free or always available.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or progress, arising from your use of the game or the website. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the game or the content the claim is about in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Ending these Terms
You can stop using the game at any time by deleting it. We may end your license if you break these Terms. Sections 6–10 continue to apply after that.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll change the date at the top when we do. If you keep playing after a change, you accept the new Terms.
